Recent dispositions on compulsory switch-off to digital television have led to a sudden diversification of channels, which, in the case of music televisions, have implied a strong remediation and recombination of materials. The re-appearance of pre-MTV disco music videos in a post-MTV audiovisual flux raise different questions: has a real disco music aesthetic ever existed? Can we consider it as a step toward the 1980s virtualization of musical performance? What’s its function in contemporary audience experience? An analysis of the disco music videos screened in the Italian channel Capital TV and their combination with other products may help us answer these questions.Downloads
