Alessandro Marini is lecturer of Italian Cinema and Literature at the University of Olomouc, and guest lecturer at the Universities of Siena and Florence. His main areas of interest are adaptation studies, and in this field he published articles about the filmography of the Taviani brothers, Garrone, Greco, and Bellocchio. He published two books, the most recent about Bertolucci’s Prima della rivoluzione. His researches are currently focused on the literary sources of the Taviani’s oeuvre.

Abstract

Alexander Seiler is one of the most significant authors in the history of Swiss documentary. This essay explores features and themes of his two films on Italian emigration in the German-speaking Switzerland (Siamo italiani, 1964, and Il vento di settembre, 2002), in which Seiler not only defines its historical background, but also aims to represent an entire social environment and its economic, emotional and moral complexity.
