Abstract

This study analyzes the work of film director Wes Anderson with the aim of describing the role that geographic contents play in his cinema. He emerged in the early 1990s indie scene and in a few years became one of the leading names of the generation of filmmakers born in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The most characteristic features of the so-called “Anderson touch” are the use of cartographic devices, the reinvention of places and landscapes, the frequent reference to a diverse tradition of literature and images, and both the identification and detachment with places. This paper aims to understand how geographic qualities establish the conditions of possibilities of action as well as narration in his movies.
