Alexander Seiler is one of the most significant authors in the history of Swiss documentary. This essay explores features and themes of his two films on Italian emigration in the German-speaking Switzerland (Siamo italiani, 1964, and Il vento di settembre, 2002), in which Seiler not only defines its historical background, but also aims to represent an entire social environment and its economic, emotional and moral complexity.Downloads
