Eduardo Morettin is currently a Professor at the School of Communications and Arts at University of São Paulo (Brazil). He is the author of Humberto Mauro, Cinema, História (Alameda Editorial, 2013) and one of the organizers of O cinema e as ditaduras militares: contextos, memórias e representações audiovisuais (Intermeios, 2018), among other works. He coordinated thematic dossiers on cinema and history in the journals like Fotocinema: revista científica de cine y fotografia (2020, with Ana Laura Lusnich) and Ideas. Idées d'Amérique (with Ignacio Del Valle Davila in 2016). He was visiting professor at the Institut des Hautes Études de l'Amérique Latine at Université Sorbonne Nouvelle Paris 3 (2019). He is a research productivity fellow at CNPq, level 2.

Abstract

The article aims to examine the relationship between cinema and colonial exhibitions in France based on the examination of Le Bled (1929), by Jean Renoir, a fiction film commissioned for the Exposition du Centenaire de la Conquête de l’Algérie, 1830-1930, and on the participation of cinema in it and in the Exposition Coloniale Internationale et des Pays d’Outre-Mer.
